chos:
King said in an interview that this photograph was taken as he tried to explain to his daughter Yolanda why she could not go to Funtown, a whites-only amusement park in Atlanta. King claims to have been tongue-tied when speaking to her. “One of the most painful experiences I have ever faced was to see her tears when I told her Funtown was closed to colored children, for I realized the first dark cloud of inferiority had floated into her little mental sky.” (TIME)
screw 9/11…
this is “never forget”
Yet there is STILL injustice in our system. Around the time when Bush was elected into office, Texas was having drug raids all over the state. This may seem insignificant but the majority of individuals arrested were African-American. Although some may have been involved with drugs, there were individuals who were completely innocent. Those who were innocent were asked to accept a plea bargain and forced to hold a criminal record on their hands or go to jail for at least 10 years leaving their families behind. A criminal record means individuals were forced out of their homes, if they lived in “the projects”, and forced out of their job. Paschall, who was the head of the prosecution, is/was completely racist which lead to many individuals wrongly accused in Texas for possession. He knew the system and he also knew how to manipulate it.
If you haven’t heard of Regina Kelly’s story, you should learn about it as soon as possible. If you don’t want to read, there is a movie based on her life experience called American Violet (She says it is 98% accurate).
